Mary-Kate Smith represents individuals in all aspects of employment-related claims before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. She has represented clients in cases involving wrongful discharge, discrimination, sexual, racial and other forms of unlawful harassment, defamation, breach of contract, First Amendment speech, whistleblowing activity and wage and hour violations. She also advises clients with respect to employment, severance, termination, and non-competition agreements.

Attorney Smith has over 15 years of civil litigation experience. In addition to employment law, she has experience in business and contract disputes, personal injury claims, and civil rights litigation. After graduating law school, Attorney Smith served as law clerk to the Honorable Thomas A. Bishop of the Connecticut Appellate Court.

Attorney Smith has had a strong commitment to human rights and equal opportunities throughout her career. She successfully assisted an Iranian law student as well as two African women obtain political asylum in the United States based upon their political and religious beliefs. She currently serves as a volunteer attorney for National Women’s Law Center and the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, providing counseling and representation for women who have suffered sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace. Attorney Smith has served on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Mentoring Network for over a decade.  The Women’s Mentoring Network seeks to create opportunities for and empower low-income and underserved women and families. Attorney Smith served as co-chair of the Employment Law Committee of the Fairfield County Bar Association and has spoken publicly on employment and sexual harassment related topics. She is currently a member of the leadership team for the Connecticut Trial Lawyer’s Association’s Women’s Caucus, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Fairfield County Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Fairfield County Bar Association.
